Pins collects nothing. There is no account, no analytics, no advertising, no third-party services, and no server belonging to the developer. Everything you save stays on your iPhone and in your own private iCloud account.
When you save a pin, the app records what you gave it:
On your iPhone, and in the private database of your own iCloud account, using Apple's CloudKit. That private database is yours. The developer has no access to it and no way to read, copy or recover its contents. Apple's handling of iCloud data is covered by Apple's own privacy policy.
If you sign out of iCloud, or turn iCloud off for Pins, your pins stay on the device and simply stop syncing.
Pins asks for location access only while you are using the app, and only to do two things: centre the map where you are, and save the spot you are standing at when you add a pin. Your location is never recorded in the background, never logged, and never leaves your device except as the coordinates you deliberately save to a pin.
You can decline location access and still use every part of the app: search Apple Maps, type an address, or long-press the map to drop a pin by hand.
Photos are chosen through Apple's own photo picker, which hands the app only the images you select. Pins stores a compressed copy alongside the pin. Your photo library is never modified, and the app cannot browse it.
Turning a coordinate into a street address is done by Apple's geocoding service, which is part of iOS. The coordinate is sent to Apple to answer that question. Nothing else is sent, and the result is stored only with your pin.
Pins does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13.
Deleting a pin removes it and its photos from your device and your iCloud database.
Settings inside the app has Delete All Pins and Categories, which erases everything at once, on this iPhone and in your iCloud, on every device signed in to your account.
Deleting the app removes everything stored on the device. To remove the iCloud copy as well, go to Settings, tap your name, then iCloud, then Manage Account Storage, and delete the app's data.
You can export everything as a JSON file at any time from Settings, so you keep a copy that does not depend on the app.
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted at this address with a new date at the top.
